Christmas Nut Wine Cookies
Ingredients:
1/2 C Margarine (do not substitute butter)
1/3 C Sugar
1 Egg
1 t crushed anise seed (see special crushing instructions below)
1/2 t lemon juice
1/4 C sherry wine
1 C flour
3/4 C ground walnuts
Confectioner's sugar frosting
Candied cherries
Directions:
Cream margarine with sugar until fluffy
Add egg and beat well
Add anise seed, lemon juice and wine and mix well
Stir in flour and mix thoroughly
Refrigerate for 1 hour
Roll into balls the size of walnuts
Roll balls in ground walnuts
Put on greased cookie sheet and flatten to make small round discs.
Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes
Cool
Prepare thin frosting (that can be drizzled) out of confectioner's sugar and water and drizzle small amount crosswise a few times across each cookie
Top each cookie with small piece of candied cherry (1/8 of cherry)
NOTE on Crushing Anise Seed: Put anise seed between 2 pieces of wax paper and crush with hammer.
