Someone came up with a list of rules for digital communication that we all should be following. How many do you violate on a regular basis?
Digital Ettiquitte Rules
1. Don't "like" your own posts and certainly don't ASK for "likes," comments, or shares. It makes you look desperate to get the number up.
2. Don't go on Facebook and just post a bunch of cheesy quotes or memes back-to-back.Personalize your posts with at least some commentary.
3. Don't randomly FaceTime people. If you want to video chat, shoot them a text first.
4. If someone doesn't reply to a text right away, settle down. It's usually not personal.
5. However, if you have time to post on social-media then you have time to return a text. So don't get caught.
6. You don't have to leave your number on a voice message to another cell phone…everyone has caller I.D. And if you don’t have anything more important to say than, "Hey, it's me. Just calling to check in" then don’t bother.
7. If someone asks you multiple questions via text, address all of them. Don't just reply to one part of the message.
8. Don't switch to a different form of digital communication mid-conversation. Meaning if someone emails you, respond to that message via email, don't text. And if they text, don't email.
9. If you’re part of a group chat, make sure you have something worthwhile to say to everyone…otherwise reply specifically to the person(s) whom you want to reach. It’s plain annoying for the rest of people in the group.Same goes for “reply all” with group emails.
10. If you have bad news to deliver, face-to-face or at least a phone call is still the way to go.
